The Colorado Plateau's Rock Art:
Images Rarely Seen

Back to Story Page

by Gary George, Hondoo Rivers and Trails

A small gallery of rock art

Examples of rock art found in the Colorado Plateau region include petroglyphs (etched drawings) and pictographs (painted drawings). For instance, the two illustrations of white animal figures on black backgrounds below are petroglyphs. The numerous drawings of reddish, elongated human figures rendered on light sandstone backgrounds are pictographs.
