Fez Medina Morocco

I love Morocco. I have been there twice in 15 years and spent a total of six weeks. My accommodations ranged from 5 star hotels in Fez and Casablanca, B&B’s in Marrakech’s medina and in a small outpost in the desert, a room that can best be described as a jail cell, (not that I have ever been in jail, but I can imagine). Anyway the point is, the one experience I have so far missed, is staying in one of Morocco’s fabulous restored historic houses.

While there are a number of small hotels restored from traditional houses, the only company I know where you can rent your own house and really “live” in the medina, is from Fez Medina Morocco.

While studying in Fez, the company’s founder Lori Wood, wanting to experience life in the medina, went against all the best advice from her friends, and rented a home in the historic city center. From then on, she was hooked and has since started to purchase and renovate these fantastic jewels as rentals.

The 12th century medina of Fez is a UNESCO World Heritage City. Stepping back in time as you enter the gates is an awesome experience. Imagine immersing yourself in that history 24 hours a day, and living in the splendor of one of these fabulous rentals with your own Hammam (an exquisite bathing suite to die for) and sipping tea from your private balcony overlooking the hustle and bustle of this thriving medina.

Well just contact Lori at Fez Medina Morocco and all this can be yours. Accommodations range from the Massriya of the Pasha Baghdadi, a two-story antique royal suite from 1880, suitable for 2-4 guests. The Massriya of the Pasha Baghdadi boasts a rooftop jewel box “Menzeh” encrusted from mosaic floor to painted ceiling with museum-quality decorative detail and view of Fez right from your bed!

For larger parties, the Riyad Maroc, a grand Moroccan Riyad of elegant proportions, houses six private suites, and is majestically centered on a courtyard of white marble and blue mosaic. Twelve pillars and a balcony surround this central area opened to the sky and boasts Grand Salon entry and a library of books on Fez.

Each stay includes private arrival and departure transport as well as the services of a full-time guide. Your guide can facilitate anything you might need, including customizing trips through the medina or making reservations and can arrange a variety of day trips outside of Fez, with superior local guides.

For the history lover with a desire to truly experience the cities culture, there is no better way then living in the heart of this thriving medina, in true luxury.
