Lunenburg Seaside Craft School

by Sheri Leigh

With over 25 difference courses including: Tile-Making, Plein Air Painting, Shibori Japanese Fabric Dying, Willow Basketry and Stained Glass Making, the Lunenburg Seaside Craft School truly is a one-of-a-kind learning experience.

Each year different courses are offered and each week provides a new subject, allowing those students so inclined to return year after year. Courses are limited to a maximum of 12 students, and are taught by local artists. The historic Newtown School is the home for most classes and its location is optimal for venturing into the village or along the seaside.

Rates start at $295 for a 5-day week-long course, and $120 for the weekend “sampler” programs. There is a slight materials charge which varies for each class.  Accommodations and meals are on your own, but the school has a list of B&B’s which offer discounts to the students.

The town of Lunenburg is itself a great destination for a get-a-way, and is one of only two UNESCO cities in North America.  The other is fellow Canadian Quebec.

Step back in time and get your hands dirty with Lunenburg Seaside Craft School and learn the craft and traditions passed through the ages.
